Donald C. Tyler was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the sixth child of eleven. He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, graduating with a B.A. in Economics. He attended Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After graduating from HLS, Don moved to Florida and became a member of the Florida Bar and the bar for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Don has practiced law in Florida for over 35 years. He started his legal career with a nationally known law firm before becoming employed by the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, first as an Administrative Judge hearing employment discrimination cases brought by Federal employees against Federal agencies, and then as an EEOC Trial Attorney advising EEOC investigators and trying EEOC cases in the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Florida. While at the Miami District Office of the EEOC, Don also served as Miami District Office Union Steward and Vice President and Delegate to Local 3599 of the National Council of EEOC Locals 216, wherein he helped initiate the first ever transition of power from one National Council President into a tradition of a representative democracy with truly competitive elections.
Next, Don worked for ten years at one publicly traded Florida company and then for the following fourteen years at another publicly traded Florida company. At each of those corporations, Don served as Senior Litigation Counsel and Employment Law Counsel advising human resources professionals, senior executives and CEOs regarding employment discrimination and labor law and directing the corporations’ national and international litigation defense and prosecution.
Don has expertise regarding employment discrimination prohibited by Title VII, the ADEA, ADA, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Don is also well versed in issues arising under the Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the National Labor Relations Act.
Don is the father of four children, including two who are identical twins, and he lives in Broward County.
